Jurrens Detasseling LLC

Detasseling is the service we provide in creating hybrid corn. Two different types of seed corn are planted side by side in order to cross pollenate creating the desired hybrid. The tassel at the top of one of the types of corn plants must be removed, or detasseled, to prevent it from pollenating itself. This allows the tassel from the other type of corn plant to pollenate the detasseled corn plant. A machine first goes through the cornfield to remove the majority of the tassels.  This is then followed by the detasseling crews to remove the rest of the tassels from that field.
